Happy 200th

Happy 200th birthday to Henry David Thoreau, a native of Concord Massachusetts and a man ahead of his time. I wish more people shared his appreciation for the environment and simplicity. Thoreau was an environmentalist, abolitionist, essayist, poet and philosopher. Since reading Walden in high school, I have been an ardent fan of Thoreau's works and ideals. A quick  search of his name will lead you to some of his more famous quotes. One of my personal favorites is; "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined."  As I am on a mission to declutter and organize my craft closet, I will include this..."Simplify, simplify."  And in a nod to nature and my local walking vista, my haiku,

Happy walking in nature.

  3. Thank you CJ. I love it there, especially on a hot sunny day. It is so shaded, that it is enjoyable to walk there even in oppressive heat. They must have sprayed for hugs there, don't even need repellent. Wishing you a happy day.

  4. What a beautiful haiku! One of my favorite memories of my daughter's brief (1 year) stay at BU was a fall trip to Walden Ponds with both kids. There's a fabulous photo of the two of them from that trip that I keep in my studio. Walden was a favorite of my daughter's; she has a deluxe edition which she treasures.

  10. Such an inviting and peaceful haiku, photo and tribute to Thoreau. I am so glad you shared; I try to write a haiku every morning but I don't have any tall stately trees nearby...14 blocks away. As soon as it gets cooler, I'll go visit!
    Cheers~
