Mail, a book, and flowers...some of my favorite things

Busy weekend, with not much time for mail...Just a letter or two to go out..

and lilies for Honore..
While I need to get on my own letter writing, I just finished a great little book about a relationship that developed through letters exchanged.

I am in the process of reading Writing with Quiet Hands,  so I find myself looking at books in terms of criteria that Paula recommends for writers. This book flowed so easily, and had characters that I was totally engaged in. When I finished this book, I thought, I hope she does a sequel. I read this book as I took the train in and out of Boston, and couldn't wait to finish it...so that's what I did. File it under my weekend read!

    I wish I could read on the train, but I get motion sick. Your garden is just beautiful. What a gift you have with flowers and I like how you translated that to the envelopes.

    The train was fine, but cars are a definite no go...I get motion sickness too! Yes I love flowers. I was lucky to have a professional gardener for a dad, just one of his many fine qualities!

    Pretty envelopes. I think the art of letter writing has disappeared-sadly. I am just as bad, I will admit. I haven't heard of either of those books so I think I need to check them out. Your flowers are looking beautiful too. Its this wonderful summer weather we are having which the flowers seem to love. Hugs-Erika

      Thanks Erica. I have gotten so used to mail exchanges that I feel hopeful that there is something good when the mail comes. I am on a mission to revive the handwritten letter. My hubs tells me it has gone the way of the rotary phone, which always makes me laugh, particularly when he does the hand motion. Wishing you a happy day.

    You garden is so beautiful with those colourful flowers and I love your sign too! Snapdragons are one of my favourite flowers of all time too. Your envelope mail is so pretty, even the stamps they have chosen add to the lovely designs 😀. Enjoy your week! J 😊

It was refreshing to read about Nina Totenberg and her friendship with Ruth Bader Ginsberg, as well as with Cokie Roberts.  I am sure this will end up on my favorites of 2023. T stands for Traditions

Nothing says traditions like a holiday...and in our house Birthdays have always been treated like holidays! We hold firmly to the belief that if there is a day you are ever going to celebrate, it's the day you were born. Luckily for Fi, her birthday is October 8, which coincides with Columbus day this year, extending the Birthday to Birthday weekend. We lined up all kinds of special treats, starting with a Half Marathon on Saturday, if you can call that a treat..followed up with  some other birthday specials, breakfast out at our favorite diner,  presents, bookstore coffee and browse around,  made to order breakfasts and dinners,  chocolate cake (yum!) and a wind down with one of our favorite hobbies on Monday... painting Halloween Vignette Years ago, I painted unfinished wood and sold it at craft fairs.   Art in Bloom Art in Bloom is being celebrated as a rite of Spring fundraising for art museums and libraries . In museums, floral designers create a piece to coordinate art on display. Local libraries and Chamber of Commerce combine their efforts with local art guilds and garden clubs to host a fun evening event. Libraries, art, flowers…what’s not to love? I decided this was an event I wanted to be involved in, both on the art and floral design aspect. First up: the display case, I asked Fiona for help on this.
