Choosing a book by its cover

I love books...and the cover art on this one left me feeling good all day!
Fantastic book by Dolley Carlson

A friend recommended this book because of the Boston Irish theme.  When I saw the cover, I ordered it immediately from Amazon. Seeing a picture of a stylish woman walking by the Public Garden immediately reminded me of my mom, a lady who exuded both style and grace.  The book had many Boston references, and transported me back to growing up in an Irish immigrant family in the Boston area. So many happy memories of our trips into the city, dressed in our finery with visits to Santa at the Enchanted Village, followed by lunch at Thompson's Spa. The book certainly made me nostalgic about the wonderful life I enjoyed growing up and my amazing parents.

    Might have to check out that book. I love the cover, too. The Boston Public Gardens is one of my favorite spots in the city. The trip to Boston to see Santa's Village at Jordan Marsh was a much anticipated event. Pictures with Santa and a box of Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins to bring home. We at lunch at Kresge's Lunch counter, the department store across the street. Your picture with Santa is adorable.

      I remember Kresge's and Jordan Marsh muffins too. Bailey's ice cream sundaes were the best! Thanks, my kids love that picture of me😊

    Sometimes a cover just speaks! And it's as good a way to choose a book as many others ;) I've never heard of this author, but I do read a lot. I'll have to check her out. Thx!

      Thank you. Your blog is great. The Dixon Gardens are beautiful. Those tulips are any. Such color..I would love to see them in person, but in the meantime, thank you for sharing.

Nothing says traditions like a holiday...and in our house Birthdays have always been treated like holidays! We hold firmly to the belief that if there is a day you are ever going to celebrate, it's the day you were born. Luckily for Fi, her birthday is October 8, which coincides with Columbus day this year, extending the Birthday to Birthday weekend. T stands for Transformation..

and nothing transforms like a butterfly...the metamorphosis is symbolic to so many cultures and religions. The butterfly offers an explanation of the life cycle, and in Christian faiths a symbol of resurrection. In Asian culture, butterflies symbolize long life and love. Native Americans see the butterfly as a symbol of color, change and joy. For them, wishes whispered to the butterfly rise to the heavens. To many people throughout the world, the butterfly symbolizes hope and change. Is it any wonder that I am always on the lookout for them? On our day trip to Ogunquit, I saw some beautiful gardens, lots of color, the ocean, and butterflies... spotted some butterflies... These butterflies were fluttering around in the beautiful gardens outside the Ogunquit Museum of American art. The sculpture garden, flowers and view were amazing. Art and Nature combined.. From here we walked the Marginal Way at Ogunquit, another of my favorite spots... Spectacula...

Get Mail, Set Sail...T stands for Tall Ships

The tall ships are in Boston this weekend. They arrived Saturday, and it was foggy.  Luckily, we had been invited to a party on Sunday... on a chartered yacht. I think I missed my calling.. Seas the day! I's a birthday party! Sunday proved to have fantastic weather, with quite a breeze to keep us comfortable. Boston Harbor Wind in our hair This was the perfect occasion to pull out my Lilly Pulitzer you gotta regatta dress! And boy did we regatta! The crew circulated with all sorts of appetizers and I had  a spiked cranberry seltzer... Boston with a twist and a little kick. Here are some of the ships we saw on our voyage Seen in Boston... Fi and me We cruised down as far as Hull and then it was back to City. Boston skyline Zakim Bridge Docked and back on dry land, we will remember our birthday bash on the water for quite a while.
