Choosing a book by its cover

I love books...and the cover art on this one left me feeling good all day!
Fantastic book by Dolley Carlson

A friend recommended this book because of the Boston Irish theme.  When I saw the cover, I ordered it immediately from Amazon. Seeing a picture of a stylish woman walking by the Public Garden immediately reminded me of my mom, a lady who exuded both style and grace.  The book had many Boston references, and transported me back to growing up in an Irish immigrant family in the Boston area. So many happy memories of our trips into the city, dressed in our finery with visits to Santa at the Enchanted Village, followed by lunch at Thompson's Spa. The book certainly made me nostalgic about the wonderful life I enjoyed growing up and my amazing parents.

Me, in my handknit irish sweater. visiting Santa, believing in the magic. I still believe in magic and miracles. Do you?

  1. Might have to check out that book. I love the cover, too. The Boston Public Gardens is one of my favorite spots in the city. The trip to Boston to see Santa's Village at Jordan Marsh was a much anticipated event. Pictures with Santa and a box of Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins to bring home. We at lunch at Kresge's Lunch counter, the department store across the street. Your picture with Santa is adorable.

  2. Sometimes a cover just speaks! And it's as good a way to choose a book as many others ;) I've never heard of this author, but I do read a lot. I'll have to check her out. Thx!
