T stands for...try it.. a little too late

well, I will try to try it...so a few new techniques..
sunflowers.
I painted the sunflower in watercolors, then cut it out.  I colored the backround using some gelatos which I have seen Jo use. I will need to play around with the gelatos to see if I can get the vibrant colors  that I have seen on her pages.   Try it on Tuesday had a friends challenge, so  I chose this quote.

True friends are like bright sunflowers
that never fade away over distance and time.
-M.W. Johnstone

Even though, the challenge was over before I had a chance to create something it was still good inspiration.  While I was out for my walk, I saw this sign, which struck me as a little sad..
I need friends..
but it also inspired me to reach out to people, and be a little friendlier to everyone I meet.  Sunshine always makes me a little happier, and the late warm weather made a beach day possible.  On the way, we spotted a sunflower farm..
A gigantic field of sunflowers.
So that's where my sunflower inspiration came from..a little happy mail to go out...
Spreading sunshine...
Sending some sunshine and friendship your way.
cheers!

  3. I love sunflowers. I live in the sunflower state, in fact. The field you found yours in is awesome.

Your art is fabulous, too. I've never even seen gelatos before, so I have no idea if they are as bright and bold as some people make them appear. I think your background is lovely, regardless.

I think I would like that sermon. I can see why you were drawn to the sign.

That's a fabulous cup and saucer. A real gem, in fact. Thanks for sharing your lovely art, your walk, and your teacup and saucer with us for T this Tuesday. It's never too late for T.

  5. I just saw your comment, Nan. I was sort of surprised by the political direction the talk took, too. But, there was so much strife, corruption, and graft that went on in the large Peruvian cities, it explained why the country was in such internal turmoil until this last election, when things seemed to settle down. In the end, I found it fascinating to learn about how Peru overcame its political hardships. The speaker also kept it light and funny, even though she was talking about a very serious issue.

Certainly NOT like our politics here, where nothing is funny, no matter which side of the fence you sit on.

    1. You are so right. It is a good way to look at politics and the context it is in. I am sure it was informative. Let hope prevail. Happy t day!

  6. I love your sunflower page, it's so beautiful! Your sunflower painting and letters are so amazing, I wish I could draw and paint like you 😁. I hope you had fun using the gelatos and thanks so much for mentioning me on your post, that is very kind of you! You created a lovely background with them and the leaf, bee and butterfly embellishments compliment the page perfectly and I love the quote you used about friendships too! I can see how you would be inspired by the sunflowers and sign you saw on your walk - I would be too! Someone will be very lucky to receive your lovely happy mail and your teacup and saucer is so pretty 😁. Sending you much happiness and sunshine this T Day! J 😊
p.s. As for the gelatos application, I think you used Snow Cone and Boysenberry gelato colours so you should be able to create more vibrancy, although I have to say that I love the effect you created 😁. To get a richer colour all you need to do is apply the gelato more thickly to the page then wet your finger (not too much, just slightly) to smudge the colour - then you'll get a brighter background. If it helps I did a post about gelatos techniques, which I'm not sure if you have seen, here's the link:

I have since found that gesso helps but is not necessary if you apply gelatos thickly to the page before you smudge them, and I have also found that you can always add another layer of gelato over the top of your first gelato application if you want more vibrancy too. I'm so impressed with your wonderful artwork and can't wait to see your next creation! Hope this proves helpful and happy crafting! J x

  9. I adore your sunflowers Nan... I have always loved them i think... One trick i've learned with Gelatos... and i'm still learning too... but they benefit greatly from having gesso put down first... try it.. see if it helps.. maybe you already had gesso down??? I also moisten my finger a little on a baby wipe... too much and i remove the gelato but just enough and it will blend.. Happy T day!! Hugs! deb
