T stands for Tuesday, tea and tabasco...

Every mug tells a story, and sometimes it's nice to sit back and have a mug and reminisce. Last night I was watching the NCAA basketball finals, and thinking back on all the the sports I have watched over the years while my kids were playing. The NCAA finals always remind me of the discipline, hard work, determination, talent, commitment, and fun it takes to get to that level.

Of all sports, I feel like rugby is my favorite...but that is easy to say..now. Fi played rugby throughout college, making it to the nationals and being named All American in her senior year.  She earned it with bumps and bruises, tears and triumphs, giving it her all every game.
Tea and Tabasco
One of my favorite memories, is driving from Boston to Central Florida overnight to see her team play in the Sweet 16. My husband, son and I took turns driving so we could make it with no stopping.  I am not a big fan of driving, so I got the graveyard shift...perfect, not much traffic between 12 and 4  in the morning. We grabbed breakfast at Cracker Barrel. My son took a bottle of Tabasco from the table and awarded it to me for my driving prowess. We made it to the game with an hour to spare, and went on the see the Team that competitors dismissed as a bunch of Barbie dolls, advance to the Elite 8.
Even Barbie's got game.
For the amount of worrying, pacing, and stress of watching my baby take the hit again and again, I received my own award.
Rugby mom.
Fi's playing days are behind her now (hear my sigh of relief) but she is still a competitor at heart. And so the training begins anew...
Gold medal in the future.
Like Gonzaga, I didn't get to see her win the Championship, but it was a hell of a ride and I couldn't be prouder. Remember, you are stronger than you think. Enjoy the Journey.

  7. Love your journal page. Great quote. Was fun to see all the mugs. Fi certainly is a competitor and I'd breathe a sigh of relief that she's no longer playing rugby, too. the only sport I'd medal in is tea drinking too. And maybe lusting after chocolate. Happy T Day!

  9. What a great story. Thank you for sharing your reminiscences of your daughter's rugby career. All Amrican - wow! I loved the part about the Tabasco award.

  10. I've only watched a few rugby games, because I'm never sure of the rules. My game is basketball, but I quit watching after Wichita State lost earlier. I actually prefer pro basketball, but everyone I know tells me all college sports are better than the pros.

You are definitely a good rugby mom, and a winner, too. I really enjoyed this post, and the beautiful cups and mugs that told the story better than anything else. And your calligraphy is beyond belief. You and CJ make me hate my handwriting even more.

Thanks for sharing yours and Fi's rugby story with us for T this Tuesday.

  11. Great story about your Tabasco award LOL. I did a lot of cringing when our boys played LaCrosse and some football. Basketball and baseball were less cringe worthy. Rugby seems very physical. Kudos!
    Happy T Day

Rugby is the sport my family follow, very physical, so I can understand how you must have felt watching the games.
