Gardening vs. Mail...flowers win

Whew! The heat is on, with a fury....all of a sudden, it's gotten hot, hot, hot. In a week, it has gone from rainy and cold to hot and humid. Vacation and last week's weather have put the planting a little behind schedule but I am on it.  Hopefully, those tender roots will survive this heat and thrive.
...with a little help from the angels.
Have a good start on the front garden...and I have hung my summer basket on the door.

Roses are in bloom...



and the portulaca (or moss roses) have been planted.
But there is still alot to do.  All this gardening has left little time for mail creation, but some of my favorite magazines came. I will be browsing through them tonight while enjoying iced tea in the back garden.
Time to sit sit back and relax.
And of course, temptation came through the mail slot...

oh no, these must go...
As part of my contentment challenge with no unnecessary purchases for 90 days, these had to be recycled promptly...My Transformation Thursday remains intact, but it is not without its challenges. Remaining hopefully optimistic, I am a work in progress.

    Your garden is looking lovely, and the roses are doing well. The front door is looking fabulous, too.

    But those magazines! I've not seen so many since I was at a magazine stand. WOW, you must have a fortune tied up in those. I did like that you recycled your JoAnn's coupons. Their sales are always so temping, aren't they?

    You can great magazine sales at the New Year because they want to increase subscriptions to lure advertisers. Magazines make most of their revenue from advertising sales. You can grab an annual subscription for around $5.00.

      I think alot of mine opened today. Every time I passed, it seemed like another bud had opened. Thank you. I made the bouquet a few years ago. I change them with the seasons.

    Thank you Karen. My house is an English cottage Tudor style with a New England twist, wooden shingles instead of stucco/brick. I think it is cozy and charming; there really is no place like home. I love my front door too and change my door decor every season. I did a two week floral design course years ago, so my door gets the love it deserves😉. The summer on is the one I get the most compliments on. I think it's the burst of color. Hope you are having fun on your travels. Looking forward to seeing your stunning photos!

Nothing says traditions like a holiday...and in our house Birthdays have always been treated like holidays! We hold firmly to the belief that if there is a day you are ever going to celebrate, it's the day you were born. Luckily for Fi, her birthday is October 8, which coincides with Columbus day this year, extending the Birthday to Birthday weekend. We lined up all kinds of special treats, starting with a Half Marathon on Saturday, if you can call that a treat..followed up with  some other birthday specials, breakfast out at our favorite diner,  presents, bookstore coffee and browse around,  made to order breakfasts and dinners,  chocolate cake (yum!) and a wind down with one of our favorite hobbies on Monday... painting Halloween Vignette Years ago, I painted unfinished wood and sold it at craft fairs.   Art in Bloom Art in Bloom is being celebrated as a rite of Spring fundraising for art museums and libraries . In museums, floral designers create a piece to coordinate art on display. Local libraries and Chamber of Commerce combine their efforts with local art guilds and garden clubs to host a fun evening event. Libraries, art, flowers…what’s not to love? I decided this was an event I wanted to be involved in, both on the art and floral design aspect. First up: the display case, I asked Fiona for help on this.
